Freddie Prinze Jr. Discusses Opening His Own Independent Promotion

Freddie Prinze Jr. is known for his work in Hollywood, notably starring roles as Fred Jones in the live-action Scooby-Doo movies and Ray in I Know What You Did Last Summer, as well as a guest spot as Ross and Rachel’s nanny on FRIENDS. Prinze, however, has spent quite a bit of time behind the scenes in the pro wrestling industry, serving as a member of the creative team and as a producer for WWE from 2008-2012.

Prinze regularly speaks about his time in the wrestling industry, usually reflecting upon it fondly. As the independent wrestling scene saw a copious amount of breakout talent amidst a very strong 2021, WWE released an ample amount of talent. The state of the independents is among the healthiest its been in a long time, with an abundance of talent at a promoters disposal. While speaking with Ariel Helwani recently, Prinze mentioned that he often considers promoting his own independent wrestling events. Prinze speaks about it at around the 44 minute mark:

Prinze followed up this interview while speaking with TVInsider. “I have this plan where one day I want to start my own [independent] fed here in California,” Prinze mentioned in an interview with TVInsider. “One that I know won’t make any money and will be a loss, but I can still stay connected. That I can hire wrestlers and let them do their work.”

Prinze had noted in the past that he would love to do a pro wrestling project in acting, but recent interviews seemingly indicate that he’s actively searching to get into the wrestling business once again, this time as a promoter locally. In the interview with Helwani, Prinze noted that he’s spoken to different people about potential television rights. Whether Prinze is searching for a local television affiliate or a platform such as IWTV which curates a catalogue from independent promotions around the world is currently unspecified.
