Vince McMahon Thought Kurt Angle Had a Fetish for Black Women

Kurt Angle was involved in an uncomfortable storyline back in 2005 with Booker T that ended up with Kurt being obsessed with Booker’s wife Sharmell. During The Kurt Angle Podcast, Angle discussed the storyline and how uncomfortable it made him.

Kurt said the following about the angle, “I have no idea where the idea came from. Vince is kind of a ribber, he’ll do stuff to mess with a little bit, to shove it in your face. He thought I had this fetish for black women. I like all women, white, black, hispanic, it doesn’t matter. My wife is half hispanic, half Italian. So I think Vince thought I had this fetish for black women and he thought it would be a funny program and I was not comfortable with it by any means. I had so much respect for Booker T and Sharmell. To do that and pretend I was stalking his wife, it was the worst angle I’ve ever done, the worst storyline I had ever done. I did it anyway because I’ve always been a team player but I was not comfortable doing it.” (h/t Gisberto Guzzo of Fightful)

Before returning to the WWE in 2017, Kurt spent a decade in TNA/Impact starting in 2006. He was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2017 as well.

The Hall of Famer was a part of a round of the COVID-19 releases following WrestleMania in April 2020. Kurt has said in interviews, specifically one with Fightful, that the creative operation is not working the same it was back during the Attitude or Ruthless Aggression Era.
