Edge Reveals Payoff To Storyline That Never Paid Off From 2003

In 2003, Edge was attacked at WWE’s Now Way Out pay per view and the storyline attack set up Edge taking time off for a year to have neck surgery and heal.

Normally in storylines like that, WWE would revisit it upon the Superstar’s return, allowing them to have a great return angle to go with. WWE never addressed it upon his return, leaving a plot thread hanging all this time. Edge was finally asked about this by Michael Corcoran, otherwise known as Brock Lesnar Guy, in an interview.

Edge revealed that WWE wound up not addressing the storyline as many thought fans wouldn’t remember it, but it was allegedly planned to be either Chris Benoit or Brock Lesnar.

“Yeah, I think they just dropped it because they didn’t think people would remember and I can’t remember if the plan was either Benoit or Brock. Maybe they were into something else. I don’t fully remember the reasoning.”

It’s interesting to think Lesnar may have been an option, as Lesnar had left the WWE in 2004 and not returned for over 8 years. However, Edge’s return wound up still having a major return as he won the Tag Team Titles with Benoit shortly after his return.
