CM Punk Thinks Vince McMahon Isn’t Worried About AEW

With AEW consistently beating NXT in the ratings war on Wednesday nights, in addition to how much attention they’ve managed to capture in both the eyes of the wrestling world and mainstream media, a lot of people may assume they’re on WWE’s radar and Vince is looking at them as stiff competition. However, CM Punk believes Vince McMahon may not be as concerned about them as some fans think.

CM Punk spoke with TMZ and said that while AEW garners a lot of buzz, Vince isn’t afraid of them. He feels if Vince was intimidated by them, he “wouldn’t allow it to happen.”

“Honestly, my knee-jerk reaction and opinion is that I think it shows Vince McMahon isn’t afraid of AEW at all. If he was, he wouldn’t allow that to happen. Anytime anybody is talking about you, it is good. There will be people that don’t know AEW exists who will watch it and say, ‘Cool, I didn’t know that. I just thought Jericho was retired.’ There is also something to be said about keeping your guys special and the only place you can see this superstar is on my television show, but it’s a new age and both companies need all the eyeballs they can get at the moment.”

Punk knows Vince fairly well, as he’s often discussed their relationship in the past prior to his WWE departure. In his eyes, Vince isn’t too concerned about AEW otherwise they wouldn’t exist as they do. So for now, Vince sees things carrying on as normal. Maybe the big rivalry is only in the hearts and minds of the fans.
