Matt Cardona was Released just Before his Contract was Set to Expire

Matt Cardona (FKA Zack Ryder) was released by WWE back in April of 2020. Cardona recently spoke with Fightful Select and confirmed that his WWE contract was set to expire in August of 2020.

WWE released Cardona back in April of 2020 due to Covid-19 budget cuts and had his no-compete clause expire in July of 2020.

Cardona was essentially saying that WWE didn’t make things much worse because with his contract expiring of August 2020 he had a month more after the no-compete clause to get his feet wet with companies.

Fightful Select mentioned that most of the people that were released either made it a point that they wanted out of their WWE contracts or they didn’t sign a new WWE contract yet.

Cardona previously appeared in All Elite Wrestling and also with Impact Wrestling as well but mentioned to Fightful Select that he isn’t under contract with anyone at the moment because he has freedom to show up wherever and whenever he wants to.
