Update On Failed Trademarks – WWE Faces Extra Hurdles On Mercedes Martinez Trademark

WWE has tried to lock down trademarks on the names of almost, if not all, of their performers in recent days. We just reported three names had been rejected due to the lack of written consent from the talent involved in the trademark.

While we can reveal it seems they have six months from December 10th to acquire the necessary consent to lock down those trademarks, one of those names has a bigger snag to deal with.

Heel By Nature included in their report on these trademark stumblings that while they needed to acquire written consent from Raquel Gonzalez, Malcolm Bivens, and Mercedes Martinez to secure the trademarks, there is another hurdle in the trademark for Martinez.

Martinez on her own registered the trademark on her name, as Martinez filed the trademark for her name back in June of this year. The WWE may have to go through extra steps to acquire the trademark now, but they may still end up with the rights. Earlier this year, WWE had similar issues when it came to filing trademarks for other performers like Drew Gulak, Pete Dunne, Tony Nese, and Mia Yim. In Yim’s case, she registered the trademark before she was signed. These filings, like the ones named, are on hold until they get the proper documentation.
