Ring Of Honor Talent Sledge Talks Addiction Recovery

RoH has started to develop their own talent in their Future of Honor, and one of their talents managed to just get signed before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sledge is an imposing figure at over six feet and he looks like the kind of guy who you wouldn’t want to encounter in a mosh pit. The man comes with an interesting background having not only been interviewed already by Stone Cold Steve Austin on his podcast already, but overcome a drug and alcohol addiction to get to where he is now with Ring of Honor.

Sledge was a guest on the Wrestling Epicenter podcast and James Walsh had an opportunity to talk to him about a variety of things, namely his recovery from his addiction and how professional wrestling has helped keep him clean.

“I am a recovering addict. When i went to the Ring of Honor Dojo, I left everything behind on an opportunity. I binge eat a lot. So, I got rid of the alcohol and drugs. But, I was binge eating. Don’t get me wrong. I was had friends. But, I just wasn’t me. So, when this pandemic hit, they sent me home. They sent me back to California. I had two homes. I had my Baltimore place and my California place. That is when I was able to really hone in on my diet… Everything I needed to do, emotionally and physically to get to where I needed to be to be on TV. And, I was home. And, they want me to stay home. They told me, “We like what you’re doing so stay at home” and they fly me in. I like being at home close to my support system.”

Addiction is not an easy thing to recover from in a mental or physical sense. It takes hard work, help, and dedication. Congratulations to Sledge for his recovery and you can check out the rest of the interview below.
