John Morrison started using the nickname “The Mayor of Slamtown” before his return to the WWE, and now he has the copyright to say it’s his.
Morrison recently filed the paperwork for the the term Slamtown on November 23rd in a report by Heel By Nature. The report was filed under his real name, John Hennigan, and he filed it for usage that would heavily imply professional wrestling. The filing noted “Sports information in the field of wrestling; Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests.”
Hennigan could be using it so he’s ahead of the curve when it comes to WWE trying to trademark it if he uses it on air. Otherwise, it’s really unclear what he trademarked for. While it’s possible this could be Hennigan preparing for a post-WWE life, he’s officially the Mayor of Slamtown and he’s made it clear no one else can call dibs on his name.
