FTR May Have Been Victims Of WWE Cuts Had They Stayed With The Company

FTR was granted their release after a year of trying to leave the company. Before their release, they were offered big money deals in the hopes to keep them in the company.

When WWE’s COVID-19 cuts came in mid-April, they took out some of those big money contracts, but FTR had already found themselves out of the WWE by then. An interesting note during Wrestling Observer Radio was Dave Meltzer noting FTR left “a lot of money on the table” when leaving the WWE, so it’s possible had they signed those contracts that they would have been victims of the COVID-19 pandemic cuts.

“Of course, they might have got cut in April because if they would have signed for that much money it would have ended up the same way.”

Obviously, that’s speculation. However considering Rusev and The Good Brothers had signed big money deals and their standing, they may have joined those three on the unemployment line.

Things have clearly worked out for FTR though. They managed to get on with AEW and have found success there already. It may turn out to be one of the best decisions they’ve made for their careers.
