Reason Why Vince McMahon Wants Referees To Call Matches As A Shoot

WWE’s referees received an amount of spotlight they don’t normally receive last Monday on Raw when the finish between The New Day and The Hurt Business was botched.

This brings to light the idea that if a finish is botched, why not use the referee to fix it? If the referee can stop a mistake from happening and maintain the booked finish, why don’t they do that?

Ringside News has reported that this is an edict from Vince McMahon. Vince has ordered referees to call matches as a shoot for a reason that actually makes sense. The idea is that this will ultimately help get heat on heels.

A tenured member of the creative team told them Vince “just feels the referees need credibility, so if a heel actually cheats, he or she can get actual heat, otherwise the heat is on the referee.”

This makes a lot of sense. If a mistake is made in this capacity, referees can be often accused of being blind and it ultimately leaves the fans blaming the referee over the wrestler or anything else. In the case of Monday’s incident, someone being a split second off for the finish made the referee look stronger having called things the proper way instead of having to drag out a count that would have gone past 10. The days of “dumb” referees are over it seems. Now when the heel breaks the rules, there’s more heat on the heel than the referee for being smart enough to call the rules exactly as they should be.
