Update On Zelina Vega’s WWE Contract And Why She Chose Not To Comply With Mandate

WWE announced the release of Zelina Vega last week, and since then a lot of information has come out regarding the conditions surrounding her termination from the company.

It had previously been reported that Zelina Vega was released from WWE because of her refusal to deactivate her third-party accounts, such as her Twitch and onlyfans. It was also noted that Vega was making more money from her Twitch account than she was from her WWE contract.

On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained that there are two different types of WWE contracts, and elaborated on how this played into Zelina Vega’s decision to keep her Twitch account, despite WWE’s orders to cease. It was said that some WWE talents are making a lot more money than others, because the deal that they signed with WWE came after AEW launched. Other talents, like Zelina, had signed their contracts prior to AEW being factored into WWE’s contract offers.

“There are two types of people under contract right now, and she was category A. Category A was the pre-whatever, not the giant money contract to keep you away from AEW deal, it’s just the contract that you sign where you’re expecting to make way more when you’re doing house shows, and now you’re not doing house shows anymore so you’re not making much money.”

With WWE no longer running a touring schedule, WWE talents were left without the income that house shows generated. Zelina was under a contract which heavily relied on WWE’s house show dates to supplement her revenue stream. Since the pandemic, many WWE Superstars were stuck at home missing those dates and had to find other means to replace the lost income that WWE’s House Shows used to create for them.

It was also stated that Zelina Vegas was making less than $1 million a year in her WWE contract, because had she been making more than that amount she would have chose to give up her Twitch account instead.
