Eddie Kingston Almost Quit Professional Wrestling During Pandemic

Eddie Kingston has made a name on the independent wrestling scene and keeping busy with those shows. The COVID-19 pandemic hit and things obviously changed for everyone, but a busy independent wrestler was hit especially hard. With no shows happening, it makes it harder for an independent wrestler to ply his craft.

During the pandemic, Kingston found his way onto the AEW roster and wound up carving a niche there that’s led him to the main event of Saturday’s Full Gear pay per view. In a recent interview with the New York Post, Kingston reveals how close he was to calling it quits before AEW signed him.

“I think probably another month I would have sold the house and moved back to New York and back to my parents’ place until I could get a regular job and, you know, get my own apartment.”

“I just started crying in the car. I didn’t understand why I was crying and my girlfriend was just like, ‘Let it go, let it out because you reached a goal. You did it.’ I was like, damn. I was gonna be broke and homeless and back living with my parents. It hit me then. I just started bawling in the car and apologizing for crying. That whole New York tough guy thing, I can’t let anyone see me cry.”

“I believe God sent my niece and nephew to me not to stop wrestling because he knew good things were gonna happen.”

Things could have turned out very differently if Kingston hadn’t received this opportunity. Now he is main eventing Saturday’s Full Gear pay per view.
