AEW is currently in the midst of pushing Kenny Omega out of the tag-team division, and back to being a sole competitor. He is currently entered into the AEW tournament in order to get a shot at the AEW World Heavyweight Championship.
When the promotion originally began, the feeling with fans was that Kenny Omega would be one of the faces of the company. For a long time, Kenny Omega and Hangman Adam Page secured the tag-team titles, but with the introduction of FTR, it was time for a change of the guard.
Since losing the titles, Kenny Omega has spent time on the commentary booth stating that he is going for a singles run. He has stated that Page is a tag-team wrestler whilst Kenny is a singles competitor. In a recent interview, Young Buck’s own Nick Jackson spoke to ScreenCrush and stated that Kenny Omega is the one to watch,
“I think year two’s going to be all about Kenny Omega. He’s been very … what’s the word I’m looking for … I guess ‘unselfish,’ and he’s ready to explode, So I would keep my eye on him. Another one off the top of my head would be Darby Allin. He’s got so much potential to be such a massive star for AEW that we have to use him in the right way, and he’s definitely going to be a top player,”
