WWE Transitioning to Own Cameo-Like Structure?

Vince McMahon’s recent edict for WWE Superstars to cut off business with third party sites such as Twitch and Cameo isn’t sitting well with fans or the Superstars themselves. The full impact of the ban — such as whether WWE performers will be able to remain on YouTube — remains to be seen.

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said he believes the move comes as WWE considers a Cameo-like set-up or “team deal” with those third parties. McMahon could think individual deals would cut into the company’s profits through such offerings.

“WWE probably wants to make a deal and individual deals undercut the team deal and so they want to make exclusive deals and if guys and women have their own deals then it’s not exclusive. That’s what I assume it is as I’m still waiting to hear back from WWE and talent are waiting to have things cleared up.”

Dave Meltzer on WWE edict on third party deals

Over SummerSlam weekend, WWE experimented with a virtual meet-and-greet instead of the typical Axxess event held before their biggest events of the year. Live one-on-one chats with Superstars Drew McIntyre, Braun Strowman, Keith Lee, Seth Rollins, and Bayley quickly sold out.

It is believed talent will have to quit working with all third party sites by Oct. 2 or face fines or even termination from the company.
