Kenny Omega Going With AEW Might Change NJPW’s Decision Not To Work With Company

As I exclusively reported prior to Wrestle Kingdom 13, Kenny Omega is finished with New Japan Pro Wrestling. Omega confirmed my report Sunday in an interview with Tokyo Sport announcing that he will be leaving the company.

In a follow up to my original report, last night I reported that Kenny Omega has decided to go with All Elite Wrestling instead of WWE, whom had reportedly offered a huge multi-million dollar deal in hopes of signing the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion.

Kenny Omega was discussed on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, and Dave Meltzer mentions that Omega’s involvement with AEW could potentially end up being enough of a reason for New Japan to reconsider their previous decision to not work with All Elite Wrestling in the future.

Regarding NJPW possibly reconsidering their stance with AEW, Meltzer said:

“What I can tell you is that New Japan does not want to lose Kenny Omega badly so I think again, this is exceedingly educated speculation that things will change in this relationship. The idea as of this Saturday was that New Japan is going to work with Ring Of Honor.”

“Ring Of Honor I guess doesn’t really want Kenny Omega, and the Young Bucks and those guys on the Garden show so there was kind of a weird situation there.”

According to Meltzer, NJPW did not find out about Kenny Omega’s departure from the company until they read the news in Tokyo Sport.

Meltzer also mentioned that it appears as though Kenny Omega is going to sign with AEW, which we reported yesterday. Meltzer said:

“It looks like Kenny Omega is going to sign with All Elite and not New Japan. Of course, nothing will be official until February 1st and of course, Kenny Omega hasn’t said this specifically, but the tea leaves kind of say it.”

“I think I’ve heard from WWE that they really wanted him and it’s not gonna happen. So unless something there changes then it’s gonna be All Elite and New Japan really wants him so maybe New Japan will be working with All Elite.”

So, it sounds as though with Omega going to AEW that New Japan might potentially reconsider their stance on working with the company mostly due to the fact that NJPW really wanted to keep Omega around.

We will keep you updated as more information becomes known.
