Everyone has known for a while that WWE was heading to Saudi Arabia for WrestleMania 43 in 2027. It’s a bold choice which has gotten the wrestling world talking. The one thing that people have expected is for AEW to take advantage of WWE going to Saudi Arabia and have a big show and or weekend in the United States during that time to fill the void of a WrestleMania. It seems like WWE expects the same.
According to Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select, even though WWE is running an NXT PLE and a Triple AAA show in New York during that weekend, they are expecting a major presence from AEW somewhere in the United States.
“According to a WWE source, the expectation of AEW potentially running a show stateside during WrestleMania 43 weekend was among the reasons that WWE moved to announce their stateside festivities nearly nine months in advance.”
At this moment, Tony Khan has not mentioned or confirmed that they will put on a big stadium show during that weekend but many people in the business and fans expect this to be a major opportunity for AEW. Not just is it an opportunity for them to have the big stadium show in April but they can also be the hub of many other conventions and shows that could take place in the same city as the AEW show.
This is the first time WWE is running WrestleMania outside the United States since 2002 when they were in Toronto, Ontario, Canada for WrestleMania 18. It could be a defining moment in both companies this April as WWE takes a big risk taking the biggest show of the year to Saudi Arabia while AEW could host the biggest United States pro wrestling show in 2027.
We will keep you updated here at Bodyslam.net if any more information about planned shows for WrestleMania weekend become available.
