One of the biggest stars in the WWE was heading into one of the biggest shows of the year as Women’s World Champion. But due to an injury, not just is Rhea Ripley unable to compete at Summerslam, now the whole SmackDown women’s division has new plans for the show.
According to Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select, the injury has caused a ripple effect in plans. Hometown hero Tiffany Stratton was originally supposed to be defend her U.S. Title in her hometown of Minnesota. Now, she is in the ladder match to determine an interim Women’s World Champion. Also, a planned Jade Cargill vs Charlotte Flair match is no longer happening. Cargill also is in the ladder match at Summerslam.
“As for Ripley’s injury, a source relayed to WrestleVotes that there was a strong internal push for Ripley to take the necessary amount of time to fully recover, rather than pushing to make it to SummerSlam. The concern was that the injury could have worsened which would have caused bigger issues down the line. WWE is hopeful that Ripley will be ready to go by the fall.”
With WWE not relinquishing the title, it clearly means that WWE doesn’t expect Ripley to be out for a long period of time. While that is the case, 6 women have the potential to steal the show in a ladder match in one of WWE’s most important shows of the year.
