Ken Shamrock: WWE RAW Underground Is “More Real”

MMA legend and former WWF superstar Ken Shamrock has voiced his approval for the “more real” MMA style of fighting found in Raw Underground.

Shamrock, 56, said in a recent interview with The Dropkick Podcast: “I like it. I like the concept,” and drew comparisons to Japanese MMA promotion Pancrase Inc, which Shamrock competed in between 1993 and 1996.

Shamrock said:

“About the Pancrase organization… we wanted to find out what wrestling would look like if it was real, and that’s what you have in the Pancrase organization.

“That’s what it looks like when you take wrestling and you turn it into a real fight – and it’s sharp.”

Shamrock added:

“When you think about what WWE is doing with the Underground, they’re going: “Hey, let’s find out… if we can start doing these these predetermined outcomes, but yet let’s make it more physical. Let’s make it more real.

“They’re gonna find out the same thing we did over in Japan – that it’s much much more exciting when you’re watching a movie that you can’t tell whether it’s real or it’s not real.”

Shamrock is a former King of Pancrase champion for the the Japanese MMA promotion. Other former champions have included his brother Frank Shamrock, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Bas Ruten and current NEVER Openweight Champion Minoru Suzuki.
