Update On John Cena’s Final Match & WWE’s Potential Schedule Changes For Their Planned December Saturday Night’s Main Event
The last time is now, well sometime in December.
Andrew Baydala has provided new details regarding WWE’s ongoing plans for John Cena’s final match, as well as scheduling adjustments for their upcoming December Saturday Night’s Main Event.
According to Baydala’s report, WWE has been considering two potential dates for Cena’s farewell bout: originaly planned for December 13th and a new potential date of December 27th. While discussions continue, it is said to now be a “one-horse race” with December 27th emerging as the likely frontrunner.
NBCUniversal (NBCU) is slated to air an NFL Saturday Night Primetime game on December 27th as a Peacock exclusive, featuring the Baltimore Ravens vs. Green Bay Packers. Sources within NBCU stated to Baydala that there would be no logistical issue hosting both the NFL game on Peacock and a WWE event airing on NBC the same evening, as the company has the infrastructure to support multiple live broadcasts. However, they also noted that NBCU generally avoids internal competition and could not confirm the final decision.
Originally, WWE and the city of Boston were negotiating around a December 13th event at TD Garden, which had been the preferred date months ago. The potential conflict stems from the Boston Celtics’ schedule, as the team could play at home on December 12th depending on their progression in the NBA In-Season Tournament. While this would not outright eliminate the December 13th option, holding an event before that date (such as SmackDown on December 12th) could be unpredictable.
As of now, December 27th appears to be the most viable option, especially since TD Garden is available on December 25th, 26th, 27th, and 28th.
Oh, and AEW’s World’s End PPV has been scheduled for December 27th, 2025 for awhile now, and the potential move of WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event to that date would once again put the two promotions going head-to-head.
In addition to Cena’s farewell, Baydala noted that WWE is also moving an upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event from its originally planned date to later in the month, though the exact rescheduled date has yet to be confirmed.
