MJF Opens Up About Fighting Eminem in Happy Gilmore 2: “I Threw Slim Shady Into a Lake”

When it comes to MJF, reality and fantasy have a way of blending together until you’re not quite sure which side of the ropes you’re on. And now, in a turn of events as surreal as they come, the former AEW World Champion is throwing hands with none other than Eminem — on the silver screen, of course.

In a recent interview with Liam Crowley on Screen Rant‘s Coffee Chats, All Elite Wrestling Star MJF (real name Maxwell Jacob Friedman) spoke candidly about his role in Happy Gilmore 2, where he plays Gordie Gilmore, the son of Adam Sandler‘s iconic hockey-stick-swinging golfer.

And while the casting alone turned heads, it’s the unexpected brawl with Slim Shady that’s got wrestling and movie fans alike buzzing.

“You know what’s really cool is you manifest these things in your head without even realizing it,” MJF said, reflecting on the full-circle nature of the moment. “So growing up when I was younger, I don’t know if you know my story, but I was unfortunately [the target of] some anti-Semitic bullying. And I remember I’d go to the gym, I told myself I was going to be the best in the world, but I’d go to the gym and whenever I worked out, I was listening to Eminem music and I’m just waiting for the beat to drop. And then I’m squatting down, I’m hitting PRs.”

Fast forward to 2025, and MJF isn’t just lifting to Eminem anymore—he’s tossing him into a body of water.

“And now here I am, I’m throwing Slim Shady into a lake. He’s going to get eaten by alligators. And I’m just like, oh my God, that’s Marshall Mathers. He’s standing right there.”

MJF, known for his quick wit and razor-sharp promos, expressed a genuine sense of awe at being part of such a wild, star-studded set, sharing that he had pinch-me moments nearly every day.

“I had moments like that every day on set. And then there were other moments where I got to meet people that I’m fans of that are also fans of me, like me and Bad Bunny. We just shot the shit about wrestling every day. And he’s the coolest dude ever, super down to earth, super awesome.”
