Zelina Vega Reflects on Emotional Victory After Winning WWE Women’s United States Championship
It wasn’t just another night at work for Zelina Vega—it was the night everything changed.
In a recent interview on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, Vega opened up about what it felt like to win the WWE Women’s United States Championship, marking a major milestone in her career: her first singles title in WWE. And while she’s no stranger to big moments, this one hit different.
“Well the day of, when it actually happened, I think I was just so in work mode that I wasn’t able to grasp what was happening,” Vega said. “Then the second I grabbed my face, when I was walking up the ramp with it, that’s when it kind of hit me and I was like, oh sh*t, this is real right now, like work stuff and things.”
The energy of the crowd, the weight of the title in her hands, and the history of what had just unfolded all began to sink in as she made her way backstage. For Vega, the moment came with a mix of disbelief and emotion.
“And then it was like, oh sh*t, this is my first singles title, what the hell? It just so happened to be the same time that the commentators [were] putting that over so yeah, I think that’s when it hit me and I was kind of blown away by it.”
Known for her confidence, charisma, and unmatched mic work, Vega admitted she wasn’t expecting to get emotional—but sometimes the moment just takes over.
“I wasn’t expecting to get emotional, because I hate crying. I hate it, as much as you’re like, Oh, she’s gonna cry again. I hate crying. When it was coming out, it’s like you kind of fight it a bit, but that moment and Backlash were the two that I just let it go.”
Whether it was her passionate performance in Puerto Rico at Backlash or her championship win that brought it all full circle, one thing is clear—Zelina Vega has arrived. And she’s not just holding gold—she’s carrying the weight of a legacy she’s still building, one powerful moment at a time.
