“I even think we’re gonna have a UFC fight. Does anybody watch UFC, the great Dana White? We’re gonna have a UFC fight, think of this, on the grounds of the White House,” Trump said to a crowd of supporters. “We have a lot of land there. We’re gonna build a little — we’re not, Dana’s gonna do it. Dana’s great, one of a kind. We’re gonna have a UFC fight, championship fight, full fight, like 20,000-25,000 people.”
Could the South Lawn of the White House, traditionally reserved for state functions and holiday festivities, become the site of a pay-per-view UFC spectacle? It may sound outlandish to some, but given Trump and White’s close relationship — and the UFC’s track record of hosting events in unconventional venues — it may not be entirely outside the realm of possibility.
Dana White, who spoke at multiple Republican National Conventions and has often praised Trump as a loyal friend and supporter of MMA, has not yet issued a public response to the idea.
The UFC has previously staged events on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi and inside empty arenas during the COVID-19 pandemic, so the concept of innovation in venue choice is nothing new to the promotion. Hosting a championship card on White House grounds would undeniably be historic, controversial, and a potential ratings bonanza.
Still, questions abound. What would security logistics look like with 20,000 to 25,000 fans descending on one of the most secure locations in the world?
As with many Trump declarations, it’s difficult to distinguish bluster from blueprint. But one thing is for sure: the mere suggestion of a UFC fight card at the White House is already setting the MMA world abuzz. And if there’s one thing Trump and Dana White know how to do, it’s generate headlines.
