Unfortunate news has emerged from New Japan Pro-Wrestling this week, as charismatic high-flyer El Phantasmo (ELP) has been sidelined due to injury.
NJPW issued an official statement on Friday confirming that El Phantasmo has suffered an injury to his right knee and, as a result, will be pulled from this weekend’s live events. The company had the following to say:
“El Phantasmo, who was scheduled to compete at events Saturday in Yamagata and Sunday in Fukushima, has sustained an injury to his right knee and will not be appearing.
We apologise to fans who were looking forward to seeing Phantasmo wrestle, and appreciate your understanding.”
Phantasmo, known for his dynamic aerial offense and electrifying presence in the ring, has been a consistent highlight on NJPW cards, both in singles competition. The Canadian star had been gaining momentum following his recent performances, and his absence this weekend will certainly be felt by fans and fellow roster members alike.
As of now, no further details have been provided regarding the severity of the injury or a timetable for Phantasmo’s return. Phantasmo has dealt with setbacks in the past, most notable being his bout with cancer in late 2024, but ELP has always bounced back with resilience and swagger. While fans will be disappointed to miss him this weekend, the hope is that this knee injury proves to be a short-term hurdle rather than a long-term setback.
