Eddie Kingston Provides Injury Update, Cites “Business Stuff” as Key Factor in AEW Return Timeline
When will The Mad King return?
AEW’s resident warrior and heart-and-soul brawler Eddie Kingston has provided an update on his health and return timeline — and while the physical healing may be on track, it’s the off-the-mat matters holding things up.
In a recent update shared via social media, Kingston gave fans a glimpse into where things stand. Though he confirmed his body is responding well post-injury, he hinted at business dealings being the more significant roadblock in his comeback process.
“I’m fine. They’re trying to rush me back in the ring, training. Which is fine. I’ve been running and stuff like that. It’s just the Business stuff that I need to get done before I even think about doing anything in the ring for the company. A lot of Business stuff.”
Originally sidelined after he suffered a tibial fracture, ACL tear, and meniscus tear during a match with Gabe Kidd at NJPW’s Resurgence in May 2024. The injury forced him to relinquish the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship and step away from a red-hot run that saw him unify his in-ring presence across AEW, NJPW, and ROH.
The Mad King’s message reveals a dual-layered reality: while his physical rehab appears to be going well — even mentioning that he’s back to running and doing training work — it’s not his conditioning that’s holding him back. It’s the behind-the-scenes negotiations or contractual matters (referred to vaguely as “business stuff”) that need to be ironed out before he can consider stepping back between the ropes.
AEW has yet to issue an official statement on Kingston’s return status, but his update suggests that while fans may not see him back immediately, the clock is ticking. With Kingston back in training mode and eager to fight — as only he can — it may only be a matter of time before the right pieces fall into place.
Whether it’s a new deal, a renegotiation, or another matter behind the curtain, the Yonkers native continues to keep it real — no sugarcoating, just straight-up honesty, the way he always does.
