Sometimes you just know.
Former WWE Superstar Cora Jade has officially returned to her independent roots following her release from the company, and is once again going by her original ring name, Elayna Black, and she’s opening up about the intuition that told her her time in WWE was nearing its end.
In a recent appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, the former NXT standout reflected candidly on her mindset heading into WrestleMania week earlier this year, revealing that she had a gut feeling her release was coming.
“I don’t know. I feel like people have asked me that a few times, and I don’t know exactly what it is. Nothing specific happened. I’ve just always kind of been like that. I feel like a handful of my friends that I had talked to, I specifically remember talking to Roxanne, she’s my best friend, and I was like, I know I’m gonna be gone, and [she said] ‘You’re crazy, no no.’ But I always know, in my intuition, when something is happening. I don’t know what that is, I just had that feeling. And at the end of Vegas, we had that whole WrestleMania week. I remember on my flight back, I was just like, well, that’s a wrap. That was it. I just knew. And then what was it? I got fired on May 2. It was two weeks later, after Mania, it was like, well I already knew that was happening.”
Cora Jade was signed to WWE in early 2021 after a successful run on the independents, particularly through GCW and SHIMMER, where she made a name for herself as the scrappy and unfiltered Elayna Black. Her run in NXT saw notable success, including a run as part of the tag team with Roxanne Perez and a heel turn that breathed new life into her character. But, her release came quietly on May 2, as part of a wave of cuts following WrestleMania 41.
For fans who’ve followed her career since day one, Jade’s return to the Elayna Black name signals more than just a rebrand—it’s a full-circle moment.
Though the WWE chapter may be closed for now, the buzz around Elayna Black’s next steps is already heating up. With indie dates already popping up on the calendar and a loyal fanbase eager to see what comes next, there’s no doubt she’ll land on her feet—exactly where she always knew she would.
