SGW Wants WWE to Release Michael Cole So They Can Have Him

Michael Cole

It’s nice to be wanted. For Michael Cole, it’s safe to assume that’s all he’s ever wanted in his near 30-year career as a wrestling broadcaster. He’s weathered storms, navigating the highs and lows of working for WWE for almost three decades. He’s beloved now or, at least, the closest thing to it. But there was a time when wrestling fans were calling for his head… or at least his release.

Nowadays, fans have grown to respect “the voice of WWE,” especially now that he’s no longer burdened by the devil on his shoulder…or in his headset (IE Vince McMahon). He’s become one of the most well-respected broadcast journalists in sports and entertainment.

Which is why South Ground Wrestling wants him fired.

SGW is, for lack of better term, an independent wrestling promotion in Uganda, East Africa. While not officially recognized, SGW has taken the world (or at least the internet) by storm with its barebones-style wrestling, featuring a myriad of excited fans who aren’t afraid to “try this at home.” SGW gained a fair amount of notoriety due to its social media presence, and even received an official wrestling ring courtesy of Cody Rhodes, as well as a championship belt. SGW is known for its off-brand, sometimes borderline inappropriate stories (a racist white man was once one of the promotion’s biggest heels) and its exceptional wrestling.

It boasts an eclectic, eccentric group of characters, phenomenal wrestling, and a DIY attitude that has inspired and enamored a generation of Twitter/X users. SGW is the true outlaw mud show, complete with actual mud. All it’s missing is a commentary team.

Which is why they want Michael Cole.

A twitter user recently told SGW that all they need is commentary and so, naturally, they shot their shot and went for the best in the biz.

You can’t really blame them for shooting for the stars. And while it’s unlikely that WWE will release Michael Cole, simply because an independent wrestling company across the world asked them to, we’re sure it’s still nice for Michael Cole to know that he is wanted, in Uganda and beyond.
