AAA-WWE Relationship Update Ahead of Worlds Collide, Shifting Power Dynamics and Uncertain Futures, & More
As the pro wrestling world gears up for the much-anticipated Worlds Collide event, the relationship between WWE and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA) is generating increasing intrigue and speculation.
New details emerging via Fightful Select have provided insight into how the evolving alliance is impacting talent, management structures, and inter-promotional politics.
Sources within AAA have indicated a palpable sense of uncertainty among talent regarding their status in the promotion, particularly for those not under full-time contracts. “So far, many of the talent in AAA are still unsure of their status moving forward,” the report notes. This ambiguity is reportedly tied to WWE’s growing involvement behind the scenes at AAA events.
WWE has been sending agents to recent AAA tapings, with the goal of assessing operations and scouting talent. Among those leading the charge is Jeremy Borash, a longtime creative mind within WWE’s developmental and production sectors. Borash has reportedly engaged with several AAA performers directly, further signaling WWE’s vested interest in shaping the narrative and trajectory of this burgeoning partnership.
The ripple effects are already being felt in AAA’s internal hierarchy. According to at least one source within the promotion, “a couple of top people in AAA have already felt some tides shift and have been ‘knocked down a few pegs of power.’” This shakeup suggests a significant recalibration may be underway as WWE’s influence expands.
The timing of certain booking decisions has also raised eyebrows. The upcoming AAA Mega Championship bout between El Hijo Del Vikingo and Alberto Del Rio (El Patrón), which is slated just a week before Worlds Collide, has fueled speculation about strategic title changes. The report stated “it’s hard to believe that it’s an accident or coincidence that El Hijo Del Vikingo vs. Alberto Del Rio/El Patron’s title match was booked the week before the Worlds Collide show.” Adding, “Even if they keep Del Rio in the company, that belt is almost surely coming off of him,” indicating that Vikingo is being positioned as a central figure in the inter-promotional storyline.
While Alberto Del Rio’s involvement at Worlds Collide has not been confirmed, El Hijo Del Vikingo is expected to play a prominent role in the crossover event, a sign of his rising stock in the global wrestling landscape.
Adding to the shifting landscape is the formal end of AAA’s working relationship with AEW. While the partnership had already diminished in recent months, Fightful confirmed that AEW talent will no longer appear in AAA programming moving forward – a move likely influenced by WWE’s growing proximity.
“Another note was that even though it was a formality and rarely happened, AEW talent will not appear in AAA moving forward.”
Meanwhile, PWInsider’s reports have been corroborated: TNA Wrestling will indeed be part of the Worlds Collide showcase. The mega-event is set to feature stars from WWE, NXT, AAA, and TNA, making it the most ambitious “Forbidden Door”-style collaboration WWE has attempted to date.
WWE’s willingness to dip into this kind of multiverse model, something once considered antithetical to their traditional practices, signals a major philosophical shift. For AAA, the new relationship could offer global exposure but may come with growing pains as roles and power structures evolve.
With Worlds Collide on the horizon, the only certainty is that the wrestling landscape is changing fast—and AAA’s future may hinge on how well it adapts to the new world order.
