Harley Cameron Recalls Wrestling Training Struggles: ‘I Don’t Think I Can Do Front Bumps, My Chest Is Gigantic’

AEW’s Harley Cameron Recalls Her Humbling First Days at Wrestling School

Before she was dazzling AEW fans with her charisma and athleticism, Harley Cameron was just another rookie trying to find her footing at wrestling school, and by her own admission, things didn’t start as smoothly as she expected.

In a recent appearance on the Lightweights Podcast with Joe Vulpis, the Australian-born AEW star opened up about her earliest training days at Flatbacks Wrestling School in Orlando, run by WWE veterans Tyler Breeze and Shawn Spears (Spears is also a former AEW Star). Despite her background in sports and performance, Cameron says her confidence was quickly tested.

“Yeah. So, I mean, to be honest, when I started, I was thinking, ‘Oh, I can do this. It’s going to be great,'” she said. “And I still remember my first day in wrestling school, which is at Flatbacks Wrestling Orlando. Shout out Breeze and Spears. Um, I remember being too scared to take a front bump and they were kind of looking at me like and I was like, ‘But my, you know, my chest is so gigantic. It’s going to hurt.’ And I for like the first week I was like, ‘I don’t think I can do the front bumps, guys.’ Like, that’s just going to be my thing, literally. And then I look back at how embarrassing that is. But that’s how like timid I was when I first started. And I had a rude awakening. I thought, ‘Shit, I don’t know if I can do this.'”

Cameron went on to explain that her early self-doubt nearly derailed her enthusiasm for the business. “I definitely went in with high hopes and then lost my confidence very quickly and then, you know, just kind of had to just push myself out of the comfort zone really.”

Since those early days of nerves and hesitation, Cameron has transformed into one of AEW’s most popular rising stars. Her story is a reminder that even those with natural talent and athletic experience aren’t immune to the challenges of professional wrestling. What sets Cameron apart is the courage she showed in overcoming that initial fear and continuing to push forward.

As AEW’s women’s division continues to grow, stories like Harley Cameron’s highlight the resilience and determination it takes to succeed in this industry. From timid trainee to televised talent, Cameron’s journey is a testament to facing fear and fighting through discomfort to reach new heights.
