DDT Pro-Wrestling held a press conference on February 29th in which Yusuke Okada revealed he will be out of action indefinitely as he is battling cancer. Okada, who is only 30, had a malignant tumor removed from his abdomen and will begin chemotherapy to prevent recurrence of the cancer.
At the end of 2023, Okada began feeling discomfort in his lower abdomen. Following an examination in early January, doctors found that a tumor was the cause of the discomfort Okada was experiencing. He underwent surgery on January 20th and tests of the tumor revealed that it was malignant cancer. The good news for Okada was that the cancer was not metastasizing. It was decided by doctors and Okada’s family that the best course of action would to begin chemotherapy in March due to the risk of recurrence of the cancer.
During the press conference, Okada spoke about his diagnosis and vowed to beat the cancer.
At the start of the year I had a tumor removed from my abdomen. After speaking with many doctors I could have chosen not to have treatment but the doctors have recommended me to have anti-cancer drug treatment. Its not over. We found out the cancer very early in development so I’m very thankful to be alive. I’ll do my best to show my determination as a wrestler to beat this cancer. I’ll do my best to recover from this and get back in the ring Asap!

Cyberfight President Sanshiro Takagi attended the press conference and made these comments on the situation:
Very glad that we found the cancer in its very early stages. I agreed with him having to get treatment asap. I want to see him in the ring again, so it’ll be a tough road but please do your best to face this disease. We’ll wait for your return!
