Possible Reason For Scott D’Amore’s Departure, Tommy Dreamer Reportedly New Head Of Creative For TNA Wrestling, Plus More Notes

Congratulations are in order for the former TNA Digital Media champion, Tommy Dreamer.

Dave Meltzer is reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that…

”Tommy Dreamer is now the head of creative as many expected with D’Amore gone.”

Clearly, nobody wanted Scott D’Amore to leave the company, but without sounding insensitive to the situation and the many beloved talent that Scott brought in, the show must go on.

Speaking of Scott, one of his longtime allies at Anthem, Ed Nordholm, has been removed from the TNA fold as well.

“Nordholm pushed Anthem to make strong offers for both C.M. Punk and Will Ospreay in particular, although it was obviously going to be a longshot for both, but he was the advocate and did get the company to agree to make offers. Punk obviously wasn’t going to go to TNA unless there was no WWE interest at all, and I don’t know if we would have even under those circumstances and the offer. Ospreay had no issues with TNA but AEW made the better offer. Others noted that the stories about Impact’s Nashville studios upgrades not happening yet coincide with getting Nordholm out of that position and D’Amore being gone. Both the company head and Anthem’s official overseeing the company had agreed to more spending on the product and the company itself didn’t see it the same way.

Basically it was said that the two people who had seen the recent growth and were looking to push for more growth were both removed at the same time.”

It appears that TNA veteran Frankie Kazarian stepped up as the “voice of reason” during the Zoom calls with Anthem executives and TNA staff.

“We were told that at the meeting where talent was told about D’Amore was gone that many were very upset about several were really upset and that Frankie Kazarian was like the voice of reason just telling people to at least give the new regime a chance. Jordynne Grace and Moose in particular were very vocal about this. It was also said not to take that as that if Kazarian wasn’t mad about it as well, as pretty much everyone was, but when some got really vocal about it on the call when the announcement was made, Kazarian was trying to keep everyone calm about it because some were very vocal about it. But it was a bad scene when CEO Leonard Asper, who made the call on D’Amore and Nordholm (who is still an executive with Anthem) said it was a decision where D’Amore stepped down and all the talent, or at least the vast majority, was already aware that wasn’t true.”

Dave also shed some light on the possible reason that Scott could’ve been “let go”.

“The Anthem side is that there were business reasons he was being let go which largely had to do with spending. There were a number of confidential things regarding money and the idea of unified branding of Anthem feeling that means more in the long run than just TNA separate.”

Yesterday, Bodyslam provided coverage of the TNA talent writing to both Scott and Anthem executives about trying to work out their issues and “reunite” the roster.

As always, Bodyslam will continue to have coverage of this story as more information becomes available.
