WWE Believed to Be ‘Absolutely Thrilled’ with How The Rock, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes Story Has Played Out

WWE may be very happy with the reactions surrounding the WWE Championship picture for WrestleMania 40.

In case you missed it — during the Feb. 2 episode of WWE SmackDown, WWE Champion, Roman Reigns made his way down to the ring to confront Cody Rhodes. The winner of the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble Match interrupted proceedings and asked the rest of ‘The Bloodline’ to leave the ring, so he could speak to Reigns man-to-man.

Rhodes said he still wants the WWE Championship and wants a piece of Reigns…but not at WrestleMania 40…and here comes The Rock. The future WWE Hall of Famer greeted Rhodes, who then left the ring before Rock and Reigns came face-to-face as the show went off the air with a RAUCOUS crowd in attendance showered both men with dueling, deafening chants.

WWE Reportedly Wanted Current Fan Reaction to Cody Rhodes

During the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, it was reported WWE was expecting Cody Rhodes to have a Daniel Bryan-like (WrestleMania 30) fan reaction to seemingly being snubbed at WrestleMania 40. The pivot to The Rock vs. Roman Reigns was reportedly made to elevate Rhodes into being an even bigger babyface than he already was.

WWE Reportedly ‘Thrilled’ with How Story Has Played Out

According to Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, he believes WWE has been ‘thrilled’ with how the story between The Rock, Roman Reigns, and Cody Rhodes has played out.

“I know some people want to believe that the (CM) Punk injury or the Vince (McMahon) stuff is the reason for the Dwayne (Johnson) stuff (facing Roman Reigns), but, and I had mentioned before that that’s not the case.

They had booked T-Mobile for Thursday, with Dwayne, long ago. Someone there kinda just mentioned in passing, you know, It’s not like you can get T-Mobile Arena four days in advance for something that was changing. This thing had to be booked way in advance.

So, this thing was, you know, when I mentioned January 3rd, it was being talked about. To make a date and have an agreement January 3rd, there was pretty much an understanding well before that.

They kept that one quiet. And however it plays out, whatever it is, it’s working. I think they’re absolutely thrilled.”
