Update on CM Punk’s Injury Changing WWE Plans

There’s been a ton of discussion surrounding CM Punk’s triceps injury and how it directly correlates to the Road to WrestleMania in Philadelphia.

Many fans have speculated that the result that we saw this past Saturday night at the Royal Rumble wasn’t the one that WWE originally planned. With even some stating that due to CM Punk’s injury occurring so late in the bout, he had to call an audible, which eventually resulted in Cody Rhodes winning the Royal Rumble Match for the second year in a row. However, this isn’t true.

Fightful Select reports that Cody Rhodes was always planned to be this year’s Royal Rumble winner, however, Punk’s injury did change the immediate plans for this past Monday’s episode of ’WWE RAW.’

“The creative on WWE Raw adjusted from what was planned as of Saturday night at the WWE Royal Rumble. We’re told that is directly tied to CM Punk’s injury, and that the Seth Rollins/Cody segment was added as a result of Punk’s injury.”

While CM Punk wasn’t planned to win the Royal Rumble, you can only presume that he was an integral part of the Road to WrestleMania – but that is no longer in effect, as far as the eye can tell. Considering his promo that opened Monday Night RAW off this week, WrestleMania 40 is currently off the table.

BodySlam will provide any updates on Punk’s future as they become available.
