Goldberg: I Tried To Be Part of Sting’s Retirement Match, He’s The Reason I Broke Into The Business

Bill Goldberg will always be grateful for The Stinger.

Before the undefeated streak came to life, Goldberg was brought into the WCW after meeting Sting and Lex Luger at his gym. Goldberg would go on to clash with many stars, including Sting in WCW before the company folded.

Now that Sting is preparing for his retirement, Goldberg has stated that he has tried multiple times to be part of the final match of Sting’s career, which is officially set for AEW Revolution.

“Sting is the reason why I broke into the business. Sting set a great example. He’s about to retire. I tried to be part of his retirement match. I would not have chosen to get into the world of professional wrestling if it wasn’t for Sting. He was a normal dude who went out and did abnormal things. Wrestling is like being in the circus, it truly is. I never looked at it with much respect, but after I watched him from afar, I realized that I had the ability to go do it. He was not only a performer. He had self-respect and he commanded respect. He’s one of the best human beings on the planet and he set an example for me and I just tried to grab it and run with it and make him proud. I had the best time of my life in the ring with Sting,” said Goldberg on Steve & Captain Evil.

It is not yet known who the final opponent of Sting will be. Ric Flair will be in his longtime rival and friend’s corner when he hangs up the boots at the end of the night.

The last match that Goldberg wrestled was in 2022 for Elimination Chamber against The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns.
