Exclusive: Miranda Maverick On Her Upcoming Fight With Andrea Lee At UFC 298: “Everybody’s Like, Oh, Great Matchmaking.. I’m Like, We Matched Ourselves”

UFC 298 comes to us live on February 17th, 2024 and will feature a huge flyweight matchup between Andrea Lee and Miranda Maverick.

UFC Flyweight Contender Miranda Maverick recently spoke to Bodyslam.net correspondent Kyle Collison on the Knockouts And 3 Counts podcast. Miranda was asked about her upcoming fight in February against Andrea Lee at UFC 298, and also revealed how the matchup came to be.

“I’m really excited about it. Like I said, I wish I would have had the fight a little bit sooner.

Andrea and I had texted back and forth. I think it was October. I posted about it a month ago or so. And I just texted her and was like, hey, are you down to fight in December, January? I’ll see if you have a fight booked. And she was like, yeah, actually, that would be great. And I was like, cool. Can you message Mick? I’m going to message Mick and I’ll make a post about it. We’ll try to get some hype around it. And she was like, sounds good. You know, and I was like, all right. And so I made a post, you know, so everybody’s like, oh, great matchmaking. I’m like, we matched ourselves.

And so we both messaged him. He sent back like thumbs up, fist bumps. And we were like, all right, sweet. We’re going to be fighting in December or something. No, it’s like, well, the card’s folded here. The card’s folded there, which is always political. You know, they’re never actually.

But uh, finally got the call a couple weeks ago, and was like alright this date will it work, and i was like any date works. I’m taking it let’s go. So i was really happy to fight andrea she’s one of those people that has been on my radar since invicta, you know.. and I get along with her well, there’s no bad blood or anything like that.

That’s why i’m texting her you know, instead of just calling her out and being a jerk. I wanted to make sure i was respectful about it and everything. We have trained together like three days, you know, it’s not like we were training partners or anything, but sparred a little bit together and stuff. And it’s been years since then. And I was like, you know, this will be a fun fight. I think it’s good hype. We both have that kind of, you know, she has the cowgirl background. I have the farm girl background, as I like to say. And I, I think it’s something that fans would like to see with her style versus mine. It’s not really one sided. And I think it’s a good matchup.”

Maverick also spoke about her recent submission victory over Priscilla Cachoeira at UFC 291.

Miranda Maverick will face Andrea Lee on February 17th, 2024 at UFC 298 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
