Exclusive: Cyrus Discusses His AJPW Real World Tag League 2023 Night 1 Victory With Ryan Davidson

The All Japan Pro-Wrestling Real World Tag League 2023 kicked off on November 12th at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

One of the teams making their debut in the tournament, Cyrus and Ryan Davidson, got off to a good start as they scored a victory over Shuji Ishikawa and Ren Ayabe.

Last year, Cyrus teamed with Shuji Ishikawa in the tag tournament and made it to the finals before losing to Kento Miyahara and Yuma Aoyagi.

Cyrus gave Bodyslam.net’s Lewis Carlan an exclusive interview as they spoke about the first night of the AJPW Real World Tag League 2023 tournament.

Here is the exclusive interview with Cyrus:

Q: Tell me about the feeling winning your first match as a team with Ryan Davidson and was that match a must win situation to show the other teams that you two are for real.
Cyrus: It felt good. I believe we have a good flow and chemistry. We feel every match is a must win because you always push to be the best. We also just wanted to show what a team of foreigners is capable of doing when coming in.

Q: What were you and Shuji Ishikawa saying to each other during the pre show ceremonies and do you think your stare down of Ren Ayabe intimidated him?
Cyrus: We were discussing last years tag league blaming each other for not winning it all. I feel that I can intimidate anyone when I stare them down plus I have a great tag partner in Ryan Davidson on my side who is just as crazy as me.

Q: How did it feel receiving a great reaction from the crowd, especially after the corner cannonball?
Cyrus: That was extremely humbling. I’m so glad restrictions on being able use your voice has been lifted. Also with it being in one of the most famous arenas in the world it means a lot to me.

Q: Your next tournament match on November 15th will be against the AJPW World Tag Team Champions Jun and Rei Saito, what’s the game plan going into the match and do you feel a victory should earn you a future title shot despite whether you win or lose the tournament?
Cyrus: I say don’t over think it. We are going to go in that ring and bring havoc to anyone we face. And to the second part of course if you beat the champions and not win the tournament you still deserve a title shot in any situation. All Japan hasn’t seen a complete foreign tag team in a very long time. So Ryan and I know what’s on our shoulders, it’s just up to us to smack everyone in the mouth.
