Eric Bischoff discusses CM Punk’s value and if WWE need him.
At AEW All In, Punk was involved in yet another backstage altercation. However, this one would be different than those in the past in various ways. Namely, Punk not only fought with Jack Perry, he also reportedly lunged at AEW president Tony Khan while furiously quitting the company.
These events would leave Khan no other choice but to fire the Chicago native with cause, despite Punk’s drawing power and status as the companies “real world’s champion”. Punk has yet to comment on the matter.
After these events, there have been several reports suggesting Punk would like to return to WWE, unfortunately it seems Vince McMahon, Nick Khan and Triple H have decided otherwise.
On the latest episode of the Strictly Business podcast, Eric Bischoff commented on this news, noting if Punk still has value.
“No, not surprised. But also, I wouldn’t be surprised if that situation changes down the road. Do I still believe that there is equity or value in Phil Brooks as the character CM Punk? Yes I do. Does WWE need him? Absolutely they don’t. Do they need him, no, but could he be an asset? Yes. I think the only way that could happen is if there was a significant meeting of the minds and convincing that the baggage that has come in the past with Phil Brooks is going to be left somewhere else and not brought into WWE. If Phil Brooks the person can convince the other person in WWE that’s making that decision, that the character of CM Punk can show up at the doorstep without all of the baggage that comes with him? I think there is business to be had.”

We will have to wait and see if we will see Punk back on WWE television after so long away from the company but for now, it appears he will not be any time soon.
Recently, Montez Ford noted that he would welcome CM Punk back to WWE.
It was also reported that the final decision for Punk’s return rested with Vince McMahon.
