Josh Alexander & The Rascalz Would Welcome CM Punk To IMPACT Wrestling

Former 2x IMPACT World Champion and a guy who many view as the ”face of the company”, Josh Alexander, weighs in on the idea of CM Punk possibly coming into IMPACT Wrestling.

In a new interview with WhatCulture, IMPACT’s Josh Alexander was asked if Punk would be welcomed into an IMPACT Wrestling locker room.

“CM Punk? Yeah, absolutely. I don’t think you can question the guy’s star power, his ability to get eyes on a product or a company. I saw Bully Ray recently say the exact same thing. You can say whatever you want [about him], but I wasn’t in those locker rooms seeing what had happened or transpired or the drama of everything that unfortunately occurred since his return, but I know who I am as a professional and an individual in this company and I think I would work synergistically with a guy like CM Punk. Of course, we’re both Bret Hart fans, so that might help. But I would love the opportunity to get in the ring with him, have a program with him in IMPACT Wrestling or anywhere else.”

A program between Josh Alexander – who challenges Alex Shelley for the IMPACT World Title at Bound For Glory, and was announced for a match against Will Ospreay the night after at the Fallout TV tapings – and CM Punk would surely have fans clamoring.

While speaking with Battle & Eli on Battleground podcast, IMPACT Tag Team Champions, The Rascalz – Trey Miguel and Zachary Wentz – also had positive things to say about the idea of Punk coming in.

“CM Punk was one of my favorite wrestlers ever. I can’t tell you how many shirts I had, how many times I dressed up as him. He’s what really…not so much brought me back to wrestling because I still loved wrestling, but he was the first guy in a while that I clicked with. I’m from a small town in Ohio, everyone is country or preppy, I’m the punk kid that had piercings. It was one of those things that connected. He was the voice of the voiceless. For me, please. It would help us step everything up if you have that high profile of a guy. It’s not just some random dude. He’s that high profile. You’ve seen the results and what happens when he gets on TV. It means more eyes and more opportunity for IMPACT and for all of us to just kill it. Please,” Wentz said.

Trey commented, “I’ve only had one interaction with CM Punk. He came to the Chicago taping and hung out in the locker room. He was very respectful to everyone and made everyone feel like they could engage with him without any weird undertone to it. I told him it was an honor to meet him and he said, ‘Please don’t say that.’ It was in a laughing manner. I remember feeling that day, ‘I wonder how this show is going to go.’ CM Punk is, for all intents and purposes, a wrestling legend. This man changed the landscape of two major companies and is one of the most recognizable faces in wrestling. He is famous from a mile away, which I feel only a few people in the world get to. That day in the locker room, everyone was a little bit hungrier. Maybe we weren’t trying to impress CM Punk, but I don’t think anyone didn’t want to not impress him. That’s just the energy.”

The Rascalz won the IMPACT Tag Team Titles at the LIVE Emergence event on 8/27 when they defeated Subculture with the help of the Good Hands. They don’t currently have a Tag Title defense scheduled at Bound For Glory, however, it’s only a matter of time until Chris Bey chases in his Tag Team Title briefcase so they can go after the titles again at Bound For Glory.

On August 27th at AEW All In, Punk was involved in yet another backstage altercation. However, this one would be different than those in the past in various ways. Namely, Punk not only fought with Jack Perry, he also reportedly lunged at AEW president Tony Khan while furiously quitting the company.

Punk and Perry were both suspended following this altercation, and then subsequently terminated, with cause, despite Punk’s drawing power.

Later, CM Punk was fired from All Elite Wrestling as a result of the incident.

While a non-compete clause is not clear, IMPACT Wrestling could be a potential landing spot for CM Punk, and there is a belief he could walk into the IMPACT with open arms tomorrow if everything worked out.
