Kris Statlander Feels Awkward Speaking But Wants To Improve At Promos

Lee South Jade Cargill vs Taya Valkyrie and Kris Statlander Las Vegas, NV AEW Double or Nothing 2023 May 28, 2023

Kris Statlander discusses the art of the promo.

The current TBS Champion has been putting on some fun matches as of late across AEW television, most recently taking on and defeating Britt Baker on a recent episode of AEW Collision. Now, she is scheduled to take on Julia Hart at AEW WrestleDream this weekend with her TBS title on the line.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Statlander discussed how she approaches promos.

“I still feel very awkward on the microphone and speaking all the time. I just force myself to do it a lot more often so I have to get better at it. I know I’m not the best at it and I know I’m not any special talker and I don’t have the best vernacular, and my tone isn’t always great and I come off very awkward. I’m aware of all that, but I know the more that I do it, the better I’ll be at it,” she said.

She continued, “You’d be surprised how socially awkward I can be. I know a lot of wrestlers and people in wrestling, and I’m more comfortable around them. It is what it is at this point. I just don’t care. I know I’m awkward, I acknowledge it, I own up to it, and it’s something I can’t control. One of the things with wrestling promos is you have to be yelling and passionate. I’m passionate, I just don’t feel like yelling right now.”

Statlander may not be known for speaking too much, but she is known for using sign language before and after her matches.
