Tony Khan has no intention of bringing AEW programming to any other company than Warner Bros Discovery.
Since AEW Dynamite went on the air in 2019, AEW programming has called Warner Bros Discovery home when it comes to their TV rights.
Recently, it was announced that Friday Night SmackDown would be moving to the USA Network next year in a huge TV rights deal that has sent shockwaves through the wrestling industry.
During the AEW WrestleDream media call, Tony Khan addressed the recent deal and how FOX now has an open slot. Khan noted that he does not intend to ever take AEW programming off WBD.
Tony was against about potentially being on FOX now that SmackDown is moving. He says their deal is up in 2024 and that he would love to stay with Warner. Tony says he cares about the people here and that this is a family business. Says he love it there with WBD. Talks about the great opportunities they’ve had. He says Fox is a great place for sports and wrestling, but his goal is to keep AEW at WBD forever. Says he would probably take a penny or two less to stay at WBD, and that he appreciates everything they have done for him. Says that he feels they will get the kind of offer that will surely would be befitting of the great performances they have had. That he is happy with WBD, and that the company is stronger since they have launched collision. Talks about how it is easier to tell the stories and develop talent with more hours of tv. Says he appreciates the opportunity from WBD, and how they have two Flagship shows now and wouldn’t have been possible without WBD. Puts over WBD more.
We will have to wait and see if Khan will get his wish, but the TV rights deal for AEW is coming up soon also.
It was previously reported that AEW are hoping for more money on their deal due to WWE’s recent negotiations.
