The Man v Barbie

Last we had seen Becky Lynch as a member of the NXT roster was in 2015, as she joined the Main Roster alongside fellow Four Horsewomen Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair. She returned to the brand in 2019 to face Rhea Ripley for one night only, but who knew we would have her return to the brand again in 2023?

Becky’s has had so many great accomplishments, from winning the Royal Rumble to being a part of the first women’s main event at WrestleMania. However, one accomplishment that Becky Lynch doesn’t have is becoming NXT Women’s Champion, unlike the rest of the horse women.

On the August 27th episode of NXT, Tiffany Stratton declared in a promo that she is better than a lot of former NXT Women’s champions including Bayley, Charlotte Flair, Asuka and notably Becky Lynch. Fans began to post about it on Social Media, highlighting that Tiffany had made a mistake since Lynch had never won the championship before. Becky responded to Tiffany’s promo, stating, “I haven’t been NXT Women’s Champion… yet.”

Tiffany, studying her potential opponent, was shown on screen during Lynch’s matches against Zoey Stark and Trish Stratus. After her Steel Cage Match against the latter at Payback, Tiffany confronted Becky Lynch. Tiffany then “apologized” to Becky for including her with the rest of the women she named. Tiffany mentioned that she forgot The Man hadn’t been champion. Becky, in return replied, “maybe I’ll see you soon,” as she stared at the championship on the rookie’s shoulder.

On the September 5th episode of NXT, Tiffany successfully defended her championship against Kiana James. Following her victory, she was met with Becky on the titantron to challenge Tiffany for her NXT Women’s Championship match on the September 12’s iteration of NXT in the main event of the show.  Becky said, “Well, gosh, seeing as I’ve won just about everything in this company apart from one title and that title is hanging on your shoulder, the NXT Women’s Champion. And seeing as you have made a trip to RAW last week, and you were at Payback on Saturday, I think it’s time that the Man comes around to NXT.”

Being that it has been some time since we have seen mixing it up with the NXT roster, it is interesting to note the timing of it as Becky’s presence will boost their ratings while also being a learning experience for the champion Tiffany Stratton.

Tiffany’s not going to go down that easily, however. As she confided in a recent promo, “Becky Lynch is the biggest match in my career, but my career began two years ago and Becky’s coming after me, where was Becky’s career after two years? Nowhere, she was some circus monkey or working as some flight attendant, certainly not at the top of the industry like I am. So Becky, you may be some Wrestle Mania main eventer, the number one superstar on RAW, Smackdown and you may be Big Time Becks in your world but I’m the center of the universe in mine. And next week, the NXT Women’s Championship isn’t going anywhere.”

There are benefits to Becky versus Tiffany as it would boost ratings for the September 12 episode, and if it continues after, it could be extended towards No Mercy meaning it would boost ticket sales for that show. I also believe Becky brings an experience that none of the NXT girls have as she is the veteran in the main roster with an incredible resume. The NXT Women’s locker room could also benefit from her presence there as they are lacking a veteran in their roster after the draft. It would also be amazing to have Becky finally winning the NXT Women’s Championship as we’ll get to see her facing their current roster with the likes of Roxanne Perez, Blair Davenport, Gigi Dolin, and Kiana James to name a few. A learning experience; time to sink and swim.

I began to think that if this was Becky’s choice, she picked Tiffany for a reason too, she sees potential in Tiffany’s growth in such a short period of time. Becky is great with her promos and it could help Tiffany learn from her as their characters are so different, Tiffany, a Barbie-like character from inception while Becky’s character as the Man was created from her building herself up to becoming the main event of WrestleMania makes for an interesting clash of styles. I am looking forward to watching this match, seeing how them are able to work together and hopefully having Becky on NXT for a few weeks as part of the show.
