AEW Talent Once Tried To Bring A Hatchet To The Ring

Here’s (redacted).

AEW have a different outlook on a lot of things with regard to silliness and weapons used during stipulation matchups on their programming. One prime recent example is the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Death Match that featured Jeff Hardy and Jeff Jarrett. However, sometimes even they are unwilling to cross certain lines.

Speaking at Starrcast, AEW attorney Christopher Peck was asked if there was ever an idea that had to be rejected for safety reasons, citing an instance where a talent wished to bring a hatchet with them to the ring.

“Truly, one of my favorite stories that I tell other lawyers. I got a call, I can’t remember who, it was a panicked call. It was maybe ten minutes before showtime. I wasn’t in the building and they were panicking. The question was, ‘can we bring a hatchet to the ring?’ I said, ‘A hatchet? What are we doing with a hatchet?’ They explained the stunt and I was like, ‘No, we can’t bring a hatchet to the ring,'”

AEW has used many out there weapons over the years, with many being customised for each wrestlers particular attitude.

That being said, it is probably for the best that AEW did not have an axe wielding wrestler on live television.
