Chris Sabin Talks Preparing For Lio Rush Ahead of Slammiversary X Division Title Defense
Chris Sabin beat Trey Miguel in a match for the IMPACT X Division Title at IMPACT’s LIVE Against All Odds event back on 6/9 to become a 9x X Division champion.
In a recent interview with the Sunday Night’s Main Event podcast, Sabin was asked what he’s doing to prepare for his bout with Rush at Slammiversary.
“Yeah, I mean I’m just going to watch Lio Rush matches, prepare and study. I have the same training program, I kind of do everything the same for whatever match it is, every match is an important match to me. Yeah, especially when I’m wrestling an opponent that I’ve never been in the ring with before. I’ve never had a one on one match with Lio actually. We’ve been on the same side of matches back in the day in Ring Of Honor, but we’ve never been against each other. Yeah, everything will be the same with the exception of watching Lio Rush matches.”

On the 6/29 episode of IMPACTonAXSTV, Lio Rush made his in-ring debut with IMPACT when he defeated Jack Price. Later on in the show, Nick Aldis was battling with Alex Shelley when Chris Sabin came to Shelley’s aid. Nick Aldis scurried away, but Lio Rush came out of nowhere and attacked Chris Sabin. Aldis came back into the ring and evened the odds. Rush grabbed Sabin’s X Division Title belt and nailed Sabin with it.
Backstage after the sneak attack, Sabin was fuming and said that if Rush wants to fight Sabin, they can do it in the ring at Slammiversary.
This set up a tag team match for the following week where Nick Aldis and Lio Rush would team against Shelley and Sabin. That match ended when Rush came off the top rope and hit the FINAL HOUR on Sabin and got a clean pinfall for the victory.
