Rumor Killer On CM Punk Changing The Finish Of His Match With Hangman Page

A statement from the Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Online’s Ryan Frederick on Reddit got a lot of attention. He claimed CM Punk had to talk Tony Khan into letting him beat Hangman Page for the AEW World Title at Double or Nothing.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that this rumor is not correct. It was further stated that CM Punk was always supposed to beat Hangman Page for his title at Double or Nothing.

As far as rumor corrections, the story going around that Punk was originally going to lose to Adam Page at last year’s Double or Nothing but pressured Tony Khan to change the finish is not true. Punk was always winning that match. I had said before the match that I it was me, I’d have Page win the first meeting and Punk then win the title in Chicago, but Khan wanted the title on Punk months earlier and that wasn’t Punk’s doing or pressuring

WON

We will have to see what’s next for CM Punk. He very well could surprise us all and wrestle for AEW again. If anything, we know that Tony Khan was, at least, able to follow through with his plan for CM Punk to beat Adam “Hangman” Page for the biggest belt in the company.
