Nikki Bella Recalls Cutting Sexist Promo In WWE And How Much She Hated It

Nikki Bella’s days in the ring might be done for good, despite occasional teases that she will get back in the squared circle. She had quite a run in the company, and the Total Bellas star has a WWE Hall of Fame ring to prove it. That being said, she isn’t a fan of everything she had to do in WWE.

While speaking on The Sessions, Nikki Bella recalled a sexist promo she had to cut on Awesome Kong. During this segment, they popped off the line that they didn’t know she was pregnant, because “I just thought you were really, really fat.”

Nikki Bella was not happy about it, and she felt like “sh*t” afterward. That being said, Nikki Bella was just doing her job as a WWE Superstar to recite the lines handed to her.

“I remember when I had to cut a promo on [Awesome] Kong, before Brie and I had left for eleven months. And I just remember feeling like sh*t. I went with what they said on paper; it was so wrong. And I talked to Kia [Stevens / Kong] before, Kia and I even talked after. It just didn’t feel good, and I didn’t like it. I was like, I don’t want cheap pops from the crowd anymore. Especially if it’s not approved by the women.”

“I could have said a lot more stuff on the mic to get these greater reactions; it was never worth it to me because we’re still telling stories, and that’s kind of how I left it the rest of my career. But then some of the stuff would be said to me on a hot mic, with not even realizing. I just remember being disappointed, like, okay, we just took five steps back. [We should have been] just tearing these barriers down, breaking them; which, we still shattered them. It just took even more work.”

Nikki Bella

Nikki Bella is currently enjoying her life as a mother and television personality. She will always have WWE in her life, because it is a huge part of her history. We’ll have to see if she ventures back to WWE for another long term role. For now, it seems that Nikki Bella is content with what she was able to do in the ring during such a crucial time in the business for female Superstars.
