Shawn Michaels Discusses Why No NXT Talent Was In The Men’s Royal Rumble

The Royal Rumble Premium Live Event was certainly a memorable event from start to finish for a good reason. It kicked off with the Men’s Royal Rumble match and fans were excited for the match.

The Men’s Royal Rumble match featured some surprise returns, especially from the likes of Logan Paul, who ended up having a tremendous performance. That being said, there was no NXT Superstar in the match.

While speaking during the NXT Vengeance Day media call, Shawn Michaels was asked about the lack of male NXT stars for the Royal Rumble. Michaels revealed that WWE only wanted women from NXT.

Look it’s made by the guys upstairs, obviously the main roster folks, we obviously, uh, let them know who we have available. I’ll say this, I don’t want to insult anybody’s intelligence, um, yes I give whatever advice, opinion, recommendations, I recognize sometimes it matters a great deal and other times it doesn’t. I think they had a pretty good idea of who they wanted this year, obviously, they asked us our opinions, and we certainly gave them.

This year it was a matter of who they wanted and a couple of backups for alternates and stuff like that just in case something were to happen. They only needed women, with my understanding, again, we had plenty of the men. For us, it was a great opportunity for NXT to have anyone up there. Anything that has to do with our talent going up there, it’s more often than not a main roster call.

The Men’s Royal Rumble match was still a resounding success for many, which saw Cody Rhodes win the whole thing and book his ticket for WrestleMania 39. We’ll have to see whether next year’s Rumble will feature NXT stars.
