Big E’s Booking Heading Into WWE Day 1 2022 Was A Source Of Frustration For The WWE Locker Room

Prior to Big E’s scheduled title defense at WWE Day 1 last year, a lot changed.

Initially, E was scheduled to face off with The Visionary, Seth Rollins with the WWE Championship E had taken from Bobby Lashley in 2021 by cashing in the Money In The Bank briefcase. However, first Kevin Owens was added to the match, then former champion Bobby Lashley and finally, Brock Lesnar was added to the match after his scheduled Universal Title match with Roman Reigns was canceled due to Reigns testing positive for Covid-19. Lesnar would end up wining the five way match, cutting Big E’s WWE title reign much too short.

Now, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful has tweeted that the booking decisions regarding this matchup was a source of frustration in the WWE locker room.

While Rollins would go on to face Roman Reigns at the 2022 Royal Rumble event, Lesnar would defend against Bobby Lashley, with Big E completely forgotten about. He would move back to SmackDown in the aftermath, before breaking his neck in March. There is no timetable for E’s return as of this writing.
