Bryan Danielson Sees His Retirement Match Being In Front Of 300 People

Bryan Danielson doesn’t want a packed stadium for his final match in the pro wrestling industry.

When his AEW contract expires, Danielson has previously stated that he plans to slow down as a full-time wrestler, but he doesn’t intend to quit his in-ring career.

Danielson recently appeared for an interview with Ron Funches on One Fall. He was asked by Funches about what might have been his final match. Danielson declared that he doesn’t take anything for granted and that any given action might be performed for the last time.

I would like to wrestle until, I would like to wrestle a match two weeks before I die and to not know that it’s my last match. That would be my ideal situation. I’m not going to be a full-time wrestler for much longer [laughs]. All that said, I’m not going to be a full-time wrestler for much longer. When my AEW contract is up, that’s pretty much me being done as a full-time wrestler. I like the way people like Terry Funk and Jerry Lawler do it, where they do it for fun. They don’t do it all the time, they do it here and there, that sort of thing. As long as I have fun doing it and I experience joy doing it, it’s something I want to continue doing for the rest of my life.

One of the things that was brought to my attention when I was forced to retire is that you never know when your last match is going to be. The last match I had before I was forced to retire, I didn’t know that was going to be my last match, and then it was, and I didn’t know until two months later when they were like, ‘I don’t think we’re going to let you comeback.’ Then it turned out to not be my last match. I went years thinking it was my last match, then it wasn’t.I don’t have any vision of what I’d like my last match to be. I certainly don’t envision it being some epic match everyone talks about. In my mind, it would be a match that I’d be doing at some local Indie in front of 300 people. ‘Okay, I’m just going out and having fun,’ and it turns out to be my last match. That’s how I envision it.

At AEW Full Gear, Danielson had the chance to win the ROH World Title, but he was defeated in a four-way match that also included Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, and Claudio Castagnoli. He would not be successful, and time will tell if Danielson will become Ring Of Honor World Champion before his career comes to a close.
