Roman Reigns, Jon Moxley And Seth Rollins Look Back On The Shield A Decade Later

Sierra. Hotel. Indian. Echo. Lima. Delta… The Shield is a decade old.

Ten years later, who would’ve thought that all three members of the shield would be the biggest stars in wrestling across multiple companies. At Survivor Series 2012, The Shield make their WWE debut as a destructive trio that ran through everyone such as John Cena, Kane, Big Show, Bryan Danielson and even The Rock. Now, Ten years after their debut, Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Reigns, Rollins and Moxley reflected on that time in their careers. First, Seth Rollins reflected on a training session with Reigns that made him realize they shared a similar mindset.

Mox and I were already on the same wavelength, and that was the moment that showed the three of us were of one mind and one goal, that allowed us to be The Shield. Without that mindset, there is no Shield, and the last ten years look a lot different.

Roman Reigns then reflected on the early realization that if they worked as hard as possible, they could all be the standard bearers for WWE.

Early on, we found out we were going to be the guys for the company that could pull the wagon as far as we wanted if we worked hard enough, If we didn’t step up, someone else would, so we’ve always done everything in our power to put ourselves in the right position.

Jon Moxley, who was known as Dean Ambrose in WWE, is the one man from the trio who is no longer in WWE. Moxley is currently the world champion in AEW. But, he looked back on the Shield days and says that the intense aura of the WWE locker room back then forced all three of them to create The Shield’s signature work ethic.

Looking back, it was like we were kids, the first few months of The Shield were fucking intense. It was a different time back then. We weren’t necessarily welcomed with open arms by everybody, but we didn’t give a fuck. We were going to push the pace and have good fucking matches. Before long, everybody wanted to start working with us.

From a trio that held tag team and United States gold, to now all three being singles competitor and all three hold singles championships. Jon Moxley is the AEW Champion, Roman Reigns is the WWE Undisputed Universal Champion and Seth Rollins is the WWE United States Champion. One of the most successful factions in WWE history, a decade later.
