Mick Foley Shares Incident That Occurred While Filming Graveyard Vignettes In WWE

Well, this is awkward.

In October 1996, Mankind and The Undertaker faced off in a Buried Alive match at WWF In Your House. During the leadup to the bout, Mankind and Paul Bearer filmed a series of vignettes from a graveyard, teasing The Undertaker’s fate.

During the latest episode of Foley is Pod (via AdFreeShows), the Hardcore Legend recalled an incident that occurred during the filming of said vignettes which caused the entire production team to take a timeout.

“You want me to go with the big reveal right away? What I remember most… Rain. Crazy rain. I remember being extremely excited and 100% committed. Then I remember there being a little bit of a timeout as we, meaning the WWE team, had to discuss this unique situation with the owner of that particular plot of cemetary who just happened to pick this dark and stormy night to visit their final resting place for their loved one and find Paul Bearer and Mankind in their grave,” Foley said.

He would clarify that there was not a funeral planned for the next day, but rather that the individual was just visiting the plot of land that they had purchased (for either them or their loved one).

“My understanding was that it was just someone that happened to pick that time to visit their grave. They showed up and brother there is Mankind coming out of the grave cutting promos in the rain, Paul Bearer going, ‘Oh, yes! Yes!’ We even took a little Clint Black who sang, ‘I’m no stranger to the rain,’ and Paul Bearer goes, ‘Ah, Mankind, I’m no stranger to the rain.’ You couldn’t write that … and they arrived to find Mankind frolicking in their loved one’s tomb,” he said.

In other Foley-related news, the WWE Hall of Famer recently revealed that he has been contacted about an upcoming season on Dark Side of the Ring. Click here to learn more.
