Spooky Wrestler Of The Day – Day 6 – Kevin Thorn

Today’s Spooky Wrestler Of The Day is none other than Kevin Thorn. Some of you may even be asking yourself, “who the hell is that?” Well, after he was Mordecai, Thorn was around WWE’s ECW brand. while this polarizing character may have been goofy to some, he did have some children spooked out at first sight!

Kevin Thorn was in and out of WWE’s developmental system, OVW, and had some showings on WWE TV under a religious gimmick named Mordecai. But, when WWE started their own ECW brand, Mordecai was brought back to WWE after a hiatus, but this time under a new gimmick named Kevin Thorn. In June of 2006, vignettes started to air for Kevin Thorne, a vampire character who had Ariel, a tarot card reader beside him. In July, just a month later, Kevin made his debut on ECW TV, where he made quick work of Little Guido. The vicious vampire would bite Ariel’s neck and strike fear into the hearts of his opponents. Sadly for him, it went down hill very fast.

When he first came in, he was a spooky vampire, simple enough, but as the year passed by, Kevin Thorn started to become more goofy and someone that fans knew wouldn’t amount to much of anything under this gimmick. He, alongside Ariel, feuded with Kelly Kelly and Mike Knox for a bit, but after Knox walked out on Kelly, things started to go into a different direction. There was clear dissension between the originals in ECW such as RVD, Sandman, Sabu and Tommy Dreamer and the new comers, would would make a faction known as “The New Breed” consisting of Elijah Burke, Matt Striker, Marcus Cor Von and yes, Kevin Thorn. The two groups fought back and forth leading into WrestleMania season where they’d have an eight man tag, where the New Breed would lose.

The group stuck around for a little bit longer, but Thorn ended up quitting the group after losing to CM Punk and not getting any help from his partners. Shortly after in May of 2007, Ariel was released by WWE and Thorn was on his own. He went on to feud with Stevie Richards up until November of 2007, before debuting a new look and leaving the vampire behind.

There’s many spooky characters in WWE, and we’ve seen Vampires before, but this one just didn’t connect. What started off as a creepy duo with Thorn and Ariel, turned out to be nothing but a waste of a talent. A shame.
